Vol. 127 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tuam Swimming Pool.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he will make available such moneys as may be required to proceed with the construction of a swimming pool in the town of Tuam, whereby a much-needed requirement will be satisfied.

No proposal for the construction of a swimming pool at Tuam has been submitted to my office. The only funds at my disposal for a work of this kind are those provided for the relief of unemployment. The amount of the grant which may be made from such funds for any particular scheme is governed, inter alia, by the number of recipients of unemployment assistance registered in the area. According to the latest available return, the number of such recipients in Tuam area is so small that I cannot hold out any hope of a grant for the construction of a swimming pool as an employment scheme.
