Vol. 133 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Lismore Fishing Facilities.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will request the Lismore estates company to open the salmon lock for an extra day in the week as it would be a means of enhancing the rod fishing on the upper stretches of the Blackwater and also attract a large number of fishing tourists to the Fermoy area.

I presume the Deputy refers to the trap in the Lismore Weir. The period in each week during which such devices may be used for the capture of salmon is prescribed by statute, and I have no authority to request the owners of such to restrict their use to a shorter period.

Are you seeking that authority?

Will the Parliamentary Secretary introduce a Bill to get rid of them altogether?

I mean generally.
