Vol. 133 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Ballina—Development of Fishing Industry.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware of the fact that there is a very good landing pier at Lacken, Ballina; and, if so, what steps he proposes to take to develop the fishing industry in this area, where there are many small uneconomic holdings of land and where there is unemployment and emigration.

If there are any fishermen in the area mentioned by the Deputy who need financial assistance in procuring fishing equipment or help in disposing of their catches to the best advantage, it is suggested that they should communicate with An Bord Iascaigh Mhara. The board is provided with funds for the provision of boats and gear on certain conditions, and it also maintains a marketing organisation for the benefit of fishermen.
