Vol. 248 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - School Consultation Machinery.

54.

asked the Minister for Education whether he will outline the nature of the consultation machinery which exists between his Department and the school managers; the frequency of meetings; and the range of items discussed.

There are six separate managerial associations connected with secondary schools and six such associations connected with national schools. There is a joint managerial body for secondary schools on which all the separate managerial associations are represented. In addition there is the council of managers of Catholic secondary schools.

The managerial associations are consulted in relation to all matters affecting school courses, curricula, staff and educational policy generally. Meetings with them are not arranged at stated intervals but are held on an ad hoc basis according as the matters to be discussed demand formal meetings.
