Vol. 249 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - City Quay (Dublin) Houses.

37.

asked the Minister for Local Government the prospects of Dublin Corporation providing municipal housing in the City Quay area.

I asked Dublin Corporation recently to review the possibility of providing local authority dwellings in the City Quay area. Their preliminary report indicates that no suitable site is immediately available but they are keeping the position under review. Because of the high demand for sites for commercial and industrial development, the price of any sites which may become available in the City Quay parish could be of an order which would make the cost of providing dwellings prohibitive. The corporation have already provided a substantial number of dwellings in areas adjoining City Quay parish and propose to provide a further 70 dwellings in the Fenian Street-Holles Street area.

May I first of all thank the Minister for his active interest in this matter which was exemplified by his carrying out a personal inspection of the area?

Has the Deputy a question?

May I ask the Minister whether he would, if the corporation were to come forward with some proposal for the acquisition of the necessary sites, favourably consider this application or if a CPO were to be reactivated in the area would he consider that?

I can assure the Deputy that any proposals put before my Department by Dublin Corporation relating to the provision of dwellings in the City Quay parish area will indeed be most favourably considered by me and by my Department.

Well arranged, Seán.
