Vol. 249 No. 8

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Roads.

95.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the developing frustration at and cost of the failure of the local authorities concerned to reconstruct the road to Dublin Airport, he will take a personal initiative in this matter, more particularly arising from the anticipated traffic chaos with the arrival of Jumbo Jets at the Airport next year.

I am aware the responsibile road authorities are pursuing plans for traffic management and road improvements on the road to Dublin Airport and further action by me is not required at this stage.

96.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of delays in the making of a new roadway at the Californian Hills, Ballyfermot, Dublin; whether his Department has made or will make any contribution towards the cost; whether the work has been under the supervision of or inspected by any officer of his Department; whether any of the work already completed is now deemed to be unfit; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The planning, execution and supervision of road works in Dublin city is the responsibility of Dublin Corporation. I have been informed by the corporation that part of the base course of the carriageway along the line of the proposed link road between Kylemore Road and the Lucan road was laid as a matter of urgency to provide access to a number of adjoining industrial sites. The site of the proposed road was inspected by officers of my Department and the corporation was notified that the scheme has been approved in principle subject to the submission of detailed plans. Until these details are supplied it is not possible to decide the amount of the grant, if any, that will be made available for the work.
