Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Marlborough House Detention Centre.

102.

asked the Minister for Education when the use of Marlborough House, Dublin, as a detention centre will be discontinued.

103.

asked the Minister for Education if he will comment on the recent report concerning the condition of Marlborough House and the dismissal or suspension of a named person; and when the new detention centre will be opened.

104.

asked the Minister for Education why a person (name supplied) was dismissed from his post as warden at Marlborough House, Dublin.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 102, 103 and 104 together.

Four years ago a decision was taken to replace Marlborough House by a new place of detention which would contain all the facilities for dealing with delinquent children. The building of a new preventive centre at Finglas was undertaken accordingly. The building is almost completed. The attendant referred to in the Deputy's question has not been dismissed. He has been suspended pending investigation of complaints made against him. This investigation is proceeding.
