Vol. 270 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Swimming Pool Grants.

95.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will list the various applications for swimming pool grants awaiting sanction on 31st January, 1974; and when sanction will be issued in each case.

A proposal involving the making of a grant by Roscommon County Council towards the cost of a swimming pool at Arigna was before my Department on the date in question. Certain inquiries in relation to the overall cost and viability of the project are being pursued with the local authority. There was no other such proposal for a local authority grant to a voluntary body for a swimming pool, before my Department awaiting decision on 31st January, 1974.

Can the Minister tell us what he has done with all the applications that were there which he listed in a reply to me some months ago?

Any applications which were before me were dealt with and I am telling the Deputy there were no applications such as this before me, except this one, on 31st January, 1974.

I received a list from the Department some months ago and quite a large number of applications were awaiting sanction. Now the Minister tells us there is only one. Either he sent them all back for reconsideration and got them out of the Department, or some new device has been thought up by the Minister to get them out of the way. Obviously nothing has been sanctioned.

The Deputy asked me to list the various applications for swimming pool grants awaiting sanction and when sanction will be issued. I have given him the reply and no matter what way he gets around it that reply is factually correct.

How many did the Minister sanction?

Will the Deputy put down a question for next week?

I am putting it down now.

Trick-of-the-loopery.

The Chair understands that Question No. 96 was withdrawn by Deputy Molloy.

I did not withdraw it and I do not intend to withdraw it.

Was it not answered earlier in conjunction with another question?

I am sorry, a Leas-Cheann Comhairle. Maybe I was not here.
