Vol. 365 No. 1

Written Answers. - Rathdowney (Laois) School.

293.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the present serious overcrowding at Rathdowney vocational school, County Laois; if he is aware that the school which was originally built for 45 students now accommodates 335 students; when it is proposed to proceed with the provision of a new school; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am aware of the accommodation situation at Rathdowney vocational school. A scheme of extension has been approved. Architectural planning has been completed and the Vocational Education Committee has been authorised by my Department to invite tenders for the building of the extension. I could not be specific at this stage as to when construction will be commenced.
