Joint Committee on the Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht

This Committee has an extremely broad remit and will be shadowing the activities of the Departments of Environment, Community & Local Government and Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht. Important areas of public policy in the areas covered by these Departments include:

  •     achieving balanced regional development;
  •     local representation and planning matters;
  •     environmental protection;
  •     climate change;
  •     promoting the development of Gaeltacht areas;
  •     promoting the culture and heritage of Ireland.

The Oireachtas Joint Committee on Environment, Culture and the Gaeltacht (the Committee) is seeking written submissions from interested individuals and groups in respect of its consideration of the Outline Heads of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Bill. Read more and get involved.

What's on this week

The Joint Committee will next meet on 16 April 2013 in CR4 at 2:15 pm.

The Committee will meet with representatives from the Irish Claims Association about the difficulties in obtaining home insurance for properties in areas that have experienced extreme weather events.

The Joint Committee will meet again on 17 April 2013 in CR1 at 9:30 am.

With the call for submissions for the Outline Heads of the Climate Action and Low Carbon Development Bill in mind,  the Committee will meet with representatives from organisations dealing with the impacts of climate change on vulneable communities and adaptation measures in Africa. This will be a good opportunity to hear fom those at the coal face of climate change and its impacts.

This Committee was established on 12 June 2012. It assumed relevant responsibilities from the Joint Committee on the Environment, Transport, Culture and the Gaeltacht.
