Agriculture Committee to discuss Proposed Renewable Energy Directive

The Joint Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will meet tomorrow at 4pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

23 October 2017

The meeting will focus on the Proposed Renewable Energy Directive (RED II) 2020-2030.

Representatives from Ethanol Europe Renewables Ltd; and Officials from Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment will appear before the Committee.

Committee Chair, Pat Deering TD, said, “The core objectives of the EU Energy Union Framework Strategy are to develop a long-term, secure, sustainable and competitive energy system in the EU. The Directive specifies national renewable energy targets for each country, taking into account its starting point and overall potential for renewables. Our witnesses tomorrow will brief us on the issues as they relate to the farming industry, including possible implications on biomass and renewable energy, in particular, the implications of certain proposed elements of the Directive on the growth of first generation energy crops.”
