Representatives from Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport to discuss Transport 21 with Transport Committee

Representatives from the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport will appear before the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport tomorrow, Wednesday, 15 December.

Chairman of the Oireachtas Joint Committee on Transport, Deputy Frank Fahey, said:  “The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport (CILT) is the recognised professional body for all professionals involved in the transport and logistics industries in Ireland. The organisation recently produced a report, T21 Midterm Review, which evaluated and assessed the Government’s Transport 21 programme after five years. The Government’s programme was announced in November 2005.

Obviously circumstances have changed since T21 was first envisaged and CILT’s report provides some thought-provoking insights in terms of how road and rail projects should proceed in the coming years, particularly costly projects such as Metro North.

The Committee will be interested in discussing the report in detail with the delegation from CILT, analysing its recommendations and conclusions on the Transport 21 programme and examining how Transport 21 should proceed in the new economic reality which confronts Ireland. It will also provide Committee members with an opportunity to raise any issue they may have on the plans to improve and expand Ireland’s transport infrastructure.”

This meeting will take place in Committee Room 1, Leinster House at 3.45pm tomorrow, Wednesday, 15 December.
