The newly established Committee on Agriculture, Food and the Marine will today meet with leading political and business figures from Northern Ireland as page of a two day visit to Dublin by the Northern Ireland Assembly and Business Trust (NIABT).
The NIABT is part of the Assembly's outreach forum and it works to forge links with, and promote the exchange of knowledge and information between, local businesses and parliamentarians in Northern Ireland and Europe.
Committee Chairman Andrew Doyle TD says: “Reflecting the imperative for ever-closer practical cooperation on both sides of the border, Oireachtas Committees have in recent months hosted a series of important delegations from the Northern Assembly. For instance, at a meeting earlier in the year with the EU Agriculture Commissioner on CAP reform, our former committee welcomed the Northern Ireland Assembly's Committee for Agriculture and Rural Development, led by its Chair Mr Paul Frew.”
“Food produced on our island has rightly earned a reputation for excellence worldwide. Tomorrow’s meeting provides us with opportunity for our Committee to exchange views with politicians, business people and officials in Northern Ireland on salmon conservation measures, the Common Fisheries Policy and the Common Agricultural Policy.”
The Committee meeting takes place Wednesday 20 June in Oireachtas, Committee Room 1, LH2000 at 12 noon.
