The Joint Oireachtas Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions this afternoon agreed to forward the reports on penalty points to the Garda Ombudsman.
12 June 2013
The Committee, which has a formal relationship with the various Ombudsman offices, received the report from the Committee on Justice, Defence and Equality.
Chairman of the Committee Pádraig Mac Lochlainn says: "It is understood that certain legal constraints prevented the Justice Committee from forwarding the reports on penalty points directly to the Garda Ombudsman. Within the Committee's orders of reference, we may liaise with other Ombudsmen, regulatory public bodies or bodies established for the purpose of redress. Having received these important reports from the Justice Committee, I am pleased that as a Committee we are in a position to forward them to the Garda Síochána Ombudsman Commission."
