Petitions Committee to examine wide range of public proposals received

The Joint Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions will meet tomorrow to consider a further grouping of public petitions received.

3rd November 2015

Petitions to be considered include:

1.    P00004-15 – “Complaints with The Ombudsman for the Defence Forces be adjudicated by a different Ombudsman.”
2.    P00015-15 – “Ceartanna Vótála”
3.    P00021-14 – “Motor Taxation reform”
4.    P00022-15 – “Launch a referendum for the Republic of Ireland on whether or not it should rejoin the United Kingdom in 2020”
5.    P00023-15 – “Unlawful Discrimination and Violation of European Law (Ministry of Justice and Equality)”

Committee Chairman, Pádraig MacLochlainn TD, said “Tomorrow we will have a chance to discuss another wide variety of public petitions at their various stages. As a Committee we will examine such issues as; complaints made to the Ombudsman for the Defence Forces and a petitioners proposal how they can be progressed, the possibility of Irish citizens abroad having the opportunity to vote in National and European elections and also a petition on motor taxation reform, specifically for road haulage drivers.”

“Also for consideration will be the proposal that a referendum be held on Ireland re-joining the United Kingdom and a petition on the application of EU Directive 2004/38/EC which looks at the rights of citizens of the Union and their family members to move and reside freely within the territory of the Member States. All petitions will be examined for their compliance with Standing Orders and our deliberations will be given in public session.”

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 4th November at 4 pm in Committee Room 3, Leinster House 2000.
