Oversight Committee meet with the Public Appointments Service on Recruitment Panels

The Joint Committee on Public Service Oversight and Petitions will meet tomorrow with representatives of the Public Appointments Service (PAS). The Committee will look to examine the current practices and procedures in relation to how recruitment panels are operated by PAS.

08 December 2015

The meeting takes place tomorrow Wednesday 9 December 2015 at 4 pm in Committee Room 3, Leinster House 2000.

Committee Chairman, Pádraig MacLochlainn TD, said “Potential issues around the transparency of how recruitment panels are operated have been raised with the Committee by way of separate Public Petition. As a Committee we now welcome the opportunity to meet with the Chief Executive Officer of the Public Appointments Service to bring clarity to the process.”

“Transparency in the way the public sector conducts its business is key to achieving trust and meetings such as these allow for a wholesome debate in bringing to light the good work that is done by organisations such as PAS and also potential issues that may arise. The recruitment process for those wishing to join, or move within, the civil or public service is key to achieving a service that is fit for purpose and we look forward to gaining insight into the policy in relation to recruitment panels in particular.”

Public proceedings can be followed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
