Citizens Information Board to appear before Petitions Committee

The Joint Committee on Public Petitions will meet tomorrow, Wednesday, 08 March, at 1.30pm in Committee Room 1, Leinster House.

07 March 2017

Representatives from the Citizens Information Board will brief the Committee on promoting engagement with the petitions process.

Committee Chairman, Sean Sherlock TD, said “The parliamentary public petitions system allows members of the public to raise issues of public policy directly with the parliament. The Citizens Information Board provides an invaluable information service to the public and it is also an organisation that has itself briefed numerous Oireachtas Committees on a wide variety of issues affecting the public. For this reason, we have invited representatives from the Citizens Information Board to brief us tomorrow on how best to encourage citizens to submit their concerns and issues directly into the centre of parliament in Ireland by utilising the petitions system. Our Committee and the Citizens Information Board are ideally placed to work together in order to facilitate and encourage greater participation in the democratic process by providing information on the petitions process to as many members of the public as possible.”
