Employment Affairs & Social Protection Committee discuss revised estimates and CE Schemes

The Committee on Employment Affairs and Social Protection will discuss revised estimates at its meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 9 November 2017.

The agenda for the meeting is:

2017 Further Revised Estimates for Public Services - Vote 37 (Employment Affairs and Social Protection)

Appearing before the Committee is Minister for Employment Affairs and Social Protection Regina Doherty TD.

The Select Committee will meet at 9.30am in Committee Room 4 tomorrow, Thursday 9 November 2017.

Following this meeting, the Joint Committee on Employment Affairs and Social Protection will meet in public at 10.45am to discuss Community Employment Schemes with the Minister.

Committee Chairman John Curran said: “Labour activation measures were a key issue identified and prioritised by the Committee in our work programme. The Community Employment (CE) programme is designed to help people who are long-term unemployed and other disadvantaged people to get back to work by offering part-time and temporary placements in jobs based within local communities. The work carried out by CE Schemes not only provides employment, support and training, but they are also very valuable in terms of social inclusion. Tomorrow, we will discuss Community Employment Schemes with the officials from the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection. In particular, we will be interested to see how the current Community Employment programme can be strengthened and widened in the light recent changes in labour activation programmes such as the introduction of JobPath.”

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
