Employment Affairs & Social Protection Committee to focus on the role of education in labour activation

The Joint Committee on Employment Affairs and Social Protection will continue its hearings on labour activation measures with a particular focus on education at its meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 7 December 2017.

Committee Chairman John Curran said: “Labour activation measures were a key issue identified and prioritised by the Committee in our work programme. To date, we have heard from the Department, IBEC, SIPTU, INOU and the Labour Market Council in relation to delivering activation places and opportunities, incentivising the take-up of opportunities through back-to-work education and training so that unemployed people are better prepared to take advantage of opportunities for employment. The focus of this week's meeting will be the role of education in activation, particularly through the provision of back-to-work education and training schemes. Dr Katriona O'Sullivan, of Trinity College's Access Programmes, will present. will present to the Committee on this subject.”

This meeting will start at 10.30am on Thursday, 7 December 2017 in Committee Room 4, Leinster House. Committee proceedings can be viewed live here.

Committee proceedings can also be viewed on the move, through the Houses of the Oireachtas Smartphone App, available for Apple and Android devices.
