The Oireachtas Joint Committee on European Union Affairs will meet the Minister of State for European Affairs Lucinda Creighton, TD tomorrow Thursday at 11:30 a.m. During the meeting, Committee Members will elect a new Chairman.
The Minister of State’s presence at the meeting will allow committee members to question her in advance of the upcoming meeting of the General Affairs Council, to be held in Brussels on Friday.
Vice-Chairman of the Committee Paschal Donohoe, said: “Our Committee meeting today is a valuable opportunity to explore Irish government policy with Minister Creighton in advance of the monthly General Affairs Council meeting, which will discuss the EU budget from 2014 to 2020 and the Danish Presidency’s work programme for 2012 and prepare for the next European Council meeting in early March.”
“Building on the detailed and lively discussion at our meeting last week between Committee Members and the Tánaiste, the latest state of play on intergovernmental negotiations on the proposed Fiscal Compact will no doubt be explored.”
The Committee will meet on Thursday 26 January at 11:30 a.m. in Committee Room 3, Leinster House 2000.
