A sub-Committee on Fisheries was established to examine issues of common concern in relation to the fishing sector and other related sustainable industries in coastal and island communities.
Following extensive hearings in 2013, the sub-Committee launched its report on Inis Oírr on 14 January 2014. It called for government policy to focus on the survival of rural coastal and island communities by promoting a diverse range of activities, outlining how aquaculture, inshore fishing, sea angling, marine tourism and seaweed activities can contribute to vibrant coastal and island areas.
