The 31st Dáil was dissolved on Wednesday, 3 February 2016.

The 24th Seanad will continue until 24 April 2016.

Remit

This Committee has a very broad remit and will shadow the activities of two Government departments and their associated bodies (see below for the list of bodies):

Public Policy

Important areas of public policy in the areas covered by these Departments include:

  • achieving balanced regional development;
  • local representation and planning matters;
  • environmental protection;
  • climate change;
  • promoting the development of Gaeltacht areas;
  • promoting the culture and heritage of Ireland.

EU Matters

The Committee also deals with through the scrutiny of EU legislative proposals.

The Committee is carrying out a public for Ireland.

includes the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) and Culture Ireland

Cross border implementation bodies

(Co-sponsored by the Department along with the Department of Culture, Arts and Leisure in Northern Ireland) in accordance with the terms of the British-Irish Agreement Act 1999.)

The 31st Dáil was dissolved on 3 February 2016.

The 32nd Dáil first met on 10 March 2016, but has yet to set up sectoral committees.

The Seanad election is currently underway, with a close of poll of Monday 25 April 2016 for the panel members, and Tuesday 26 April 2016 for the university members.

This Committee was established on 12 June 2012.

The Committee assumed relevant responsibilities from the former Joint Committee on the Environment, Transport, Culture and the Gaeltacht.
