Select Committee on Budgetary Oversight
The Committee on Budgetary Oversight was established in July 2016 to enhance the role of the Oireachtas in the budgetary formation process. The Committee will review the macro-economic and fiscal issues that form part of budget considerations.
This includes; the need for sustainable public finances, the limitations, if any, arising from the application of national and EU fiscal rules and the capacity of the State to change fiscal policy arising from economic growth and also demographic and other pressures on the spending side.
The Committee may make recommendations to the Government suggesting changes to revenue raising, or expenditure, and is expected to report to Dáil Éireann on the outcome of its review of Budget 2017, at end September 2016.
What's on this week
The next meeting of the Committee will take place on Wednesday, the 22nd of February at 2.00pm.
The Committee will be discussing the fiscal outlook, competitiveness and labour market developments with reprentatives from the Irish Congress of Trade Unions (ICTU)
