Joint Committee on Culure, Heritage and the Gaeltacht

The Oireachtas Committee on Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht shadows the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. This Committee was established on 26 September 2017 and assumed relevant responsibilities from the Joint Committee on Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs. It plays an important role in considering policy and providing an imput into legislation which contributes to balanced development in the areas of culture, heritage and the Gaeltacht and to the economic, social and cultural enhancement of the Gaeltacht in particular.

It considers and reports to the houses of the Oireachtas on the expenditure and administration of the Department. The Committe has a keen interest in the Department's policy formation and implementation as it relates to our national and cultural heritage, and the sustainability of Gaeltacht communities in promoting and protecing Ireland's heritage and culture, in advancing the use of the Irish Language, and in supporting the sustainable development of the islands.

It also has an interest in bodies which come under the aegis of the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. Bills and legislation, along with European Union matters that relate to the Department also come under the Committee's remit.

What's on this week

The Joint Committee on Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht will meet in public session on Thursday 23rd November 2017 at 2.30p.m. in CR1. Discussion on sexual harassment in the arts and culture sector, with particular focus on the policies, provisions, structures and procedures in place and required to address this issue.
