Joint Committee on Education and Social Protection

‌This Committee has a broad remit in shadowing two key Government Departments. It seeks to provide a meaningful input into legislation and policy, with a number of  goals such as:

  • Ensuring Ireland’s education system benefits all of society and is recognised internationally as a top class system
  • Ensuring that our most vulnerable citizens are protected by a strong and equitable social welfare system.
  • Supporting economic recovery and social renewal.

This Committee was established on 12 June 2012. It assumed relevant responsibilities from the Joint Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education.

On 5 March 2014 the Committee launched a report with a series of recommendations on Schools Admissions legislation. Members of the Committee are pictured presenting the report to Minister for Education and Skills Ruairi Quinn TD.
