Joint Committee on Education and Social Protection

This Committee has a broad remit in shadowing two key Government Departments. It seeks to provide a meaningful input into legislation and policy, with a number of  goals such as:

  • Ensuring Ireland’s education system benefits all of society and is recognised internationally as a top class system
  • Ensuring that our most vulnerable citizens are protected by a strong and equitable social welfare system.
  • Supporting economic recovery and social renewal.  

The Committee also regularly engages with EU institutions to monitor and influence the political and strategic direction of the Union as a whole. View Committee's Orders of Reference and current Work Programme 2012.

This Committee was established on 12 June 2012. It assumed relevant responsibilities from the Joint Committee on Jobs, Social Protection and Education.
