Joint Committee on Transport and Communications

This Committee has a very broad remit over policy areas which impinge on the lives of citizens in every corner of the country.  In shadowing the work of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources and the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, the Committee considers general policy matters relating to the functions of those two Departments and EU policy priorities in those areas.

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will meet with Representatives from Irish Road Haulage Association, Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann for Pre-legislative Scrutiny of the General Scheme of the Road Traffic Bill 2015


The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will meet with Representatives of the Monaghan Anti Pylon Committee to  discuss the North South Interconnector.

This Committee was established on 12 June 2012. It assumed relevant responsibilities from the Joint Committee on Communications, Natural Resources and Agriculture and the Joint Committee on Environment, Transport, Culture and the Gaeltacht.

On 18 July 2013, the Committee launched a report which recommended that a single body be given responsibility for co-ordinating the regulation of social media content.
