Joint Committee on Transport and Communications

This Committee has a very broad remit over policy areas which impinge on the lives of citizens in every corner of the country.  In shadowing the work of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources and the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, the Committee considers general policy matters relating to the functions of those two Departments and EU policy priorities in those areas.

Week commencing Monday 19 January 2015

The Joint Committee on Transport and Communications will meet with  representatives from Insurance Ireland and the Consumer Association of Ireland to discuss the issue of petrol stretching.


The Select sub-Committee on Transport, Tourism and Sport will meet with Minister Paschal Donohoe in relation to EU Aviation Agreements.

This Committee was established on 12 June 2012. It assumed relevant responsibilities from the Joint Committee on Communications, Natural Resources and Agriculture and the Joint Committee on Environment, Transport, Culture and the Gaeltacht.

On 18 July 2013, the Committee launched a report which recommended that a single body be given responsibility for co-ordinating the regulation of social media content.
