Joint Committee on Transport and Communications

This Committee has a very broad remit over policy areas which impinge on the lives of citizens in every corner of the country.  In shadowing the work of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources and the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, the Committee considers general policy matters relating to the functions of those two Departments and EU policy priorities in those areas.

The Joint Committee will meet on Wednesday, 8 July at 9.30 a.m., with Samaritans Ireland and the Telecommunications and Internet Federation, to discuss the operation of the EU allocated 116123 Samaritans phone number

 

The Joint Committee will launch its Report on The Regulation and Inspection of Gas Installers Operating in Ireland on Wednesday, 8 July in the Audio Visual Room, Leinster House 2000 at 12 noon

 

The Select sub-Committee on Communications, Energy and Natural Resources will meet on Thursday, 9 July at 4.45pm, to consider the Petroleum (Exploration and Extraction) Safety Bill 2015 (subject to referral)

Meeting postponed: Communications Committee meeting on Energy Policy White Paper

 

This Committee was established on 12 June 2012. It assumed relevant responsibilities from the Joint Committee on Communications, Natural Resources and Agriculture and the Joint Committee on Environment, Transport, Culture and the Gaeltacht.

On 18 July 2013, the Committee launched a report which recommended that a single body be given responsibility for co-ordinating the regulation of social media content.
