Genealogy and Heraldry Bill 2006

Bill entitled an Act to repeal and to amend sections of the National Cultural Institutions Act 1997; to establish a Heraldic Authority for Ireland and provide for the functions, duties and powers thereof; to regularise and modernise the delivery of heraldic services by the State; to establish and make provision for an Office of Arms consisting of Príomh-Aralt na hÉireann (Chief Herald of Ireland) and Leas-Phríomharalt na hÉireann (Deputy Chief Herald of Ireland); to define, coordinate and establish procedures for the delivery of heraldic, vexillological and genealogical services by the State and for the formulation of policy in respect of such matters; to provide for the maintenance, protection, legal custody and public accessibility of records pertaining to the functions above; to provide for the retrospective confirmation of Grants of Arms made by the non-statutory Genealogical Office in the name of the Chief Herald of Ireland on behalf of the State since 1943 and to amend the law relating to the heraldic functions of the State and to provide for related matters
