Houses of the Oireachtas IPTV service on the Government Networks


This multicast IPTV service is only available on the Government Networks in Ireland.

This service is available to Government Departments, Offices, and Agencies

connected to the Government Networks.


Live coverage of the Dáil, Seanad, and 4 committee channels is now available, and the Oireachtas TV channel is also provided.

There are seven channels available:-

  • udp://@Address:Port - Channel Name
  • udp://@225.1.1.7:2007 - Oireachtas TV
  • udp://@225.1.1.1:2001 - Dáil
  • udp://@225.1.1.2:2002 - Seanad
  • udp://@225.1.1.3:2003 - Committee Room 1
  • udp://@225.1.1.4:2004 - Committee Room 2
  • udp://@225.1.1.5:2005 - Committee Room 3
  • udp://@225.1.1.6:2006 - Committee Room 4

The television channels are converted from the SDI video format supplied by the Oireachtas Broadcasting Unit, and and provided as multicast MPEG4 at 3 MBit/sec. using digital encoders.

This service is provided in association with the HEAnet and the Department of Pubic Expenditure and Reform.

Live coverage of the Dáil, Seanad, and 4 committee channels is now available, and the Oireachtas TV channel is also provided.

The open source media player VLC now supports the codec used by this system.

Instructions

  1. Use VLC software on a PC

    1. Download the latest version of VLC from www.videolan.org and install it on your PC.
      Note that earlier versions don’t support the required codec, so don’t skip this step if you already have an older version.
    2. Start VLC
    3. Select Media
    4. Select Open Network Stream
    5. Enter the appropriate url e.g. for the Oireachtas TV channel enter "udp://@225.1.1.7:2007"
    6. Click “Play”
    7. Should all relevant access rules be correct, you will see the Oireachtas TV channel.
  2. Use an Internet TV

    1. Alternatively, use a suitably configured Internet TV or set top box.
    2. Enter the appropriate url e.g. for the Oireachtas TV channel enter "udp://@225.1.1.7:2007"
    3. Should all relevant access rules be correct, you will see the Oireachtas TV channel.

This service was launched during 2005.
