Background Information Budget 2009

The Budget sets out the Government's budgetary targets for the following three years. Documents relating to the Budget, including the Estimates, are or will be published on:

• the Department of Finance Web site
• and on www.budget.gov.ie Budget documents
• Estimates of Receipts and Expenditure for the Year Ending 31 December 2009 White Paper published on 11 November 2008.

Budget 2009

• Oireachtas Live - Live Mindows Media Player Webcasting, IPTV and telephone dial up service of proceedings in Dáil Éireann
• Oireachtas Live Dail Éireann - Flash - An experimental Flash Wecasting service
• The budget statement followed by Financial Resolutions- which give temporary legislative backing for immediate budgetary changes in the Official Report of Parliamentary Debates (Dáil)

Legislation

The following bills, when enacted, give legislative effect to the Budget:

• Social Welfare (Miscellaneous Provisions) Bill 2008
  • This bill deals with social welfare and pensions matters
• Finance (No. 2) Bill 2008
  • This bill deals with taxation matters.
• The Estimates and the Appropriation Bill 2009
  • The estimates (legislative proposals on how the Government will spend its money in 2009) will be voted on by the Dáil during 2009, and may be referred to select committees for discussion.
  • The Appropriation Bill 2009 (which includes the estimates for 2009) will be published and passed in December 2009.
• Finance Bill 2009
  • This bill will deal with taxation matters
