The Committee shadows the Department of Education and the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science. It seeks to provide a meaningful input into legislation and policy so that Ireland’s education system benefits all of society and is recognised internationally as a world class system in terms of research, innovation and science.

Following an invitation from the European Parliament Committee on Culture and Education, members travelled to the European Parliament in Brussels on 27 November 2023 to attend an inter-parliamentary committee meeting, the aim of which was to foster debate and share experiences at both a national and European level on European citizenship education.

Supports for Survivors of Residential Institutional Abuse Bill 2023
In scrutinising the proposed legislation, the Committee notes this seminal legislation will serve as a blueprint to safeguarding survivors of institutional abuse into the future. The Committee also thanks survivor groups for contributing to the discussion on the draft legislation and reiterates the point that survivors did nothing wrong and were innocent victims of institutional cruelty.
