The Committee shadows the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Sport, Gaeltacht and Media, focusing on the following areas under the Department's remit: tourism, culture, arts, sport and media.

The Committee was renamed during the Dáil term (24 May 2021) and was previously the Committee on Media, Tourism, Arts, Culture, Sport and the Gaeltacht.

Inclusion in sport

In light of its concern that certain societal groups experience lower participation rates in sport, the Committee considers, among other issues, the importance of broad-based funding and accountability for use of funds and the co-design of programmes and policies affecting marginalised communities.

Developing rural tourism

In examining the contribution of tourism to rural communities, the Committee considered the diversification of the rural tourism offering, outdoor recreation and outdoor recreation infrastructure. The Committee also explores the opportunities for sustainable outdoor and nature-based tourism for Gaeltacht areas.
