Business of Select Committee

We are in public session. Apologies have been received from Deputy John Lahart. Before we begin, I welcome all members to the meeting. I am delighted to have been selected as the new chairperson for this committee. I look forward to continuing to work with all members on a cross-party basis. I will also take the moment to acknowledge my predecessor, Deputy Josepha Madigan, on behalf of the committee and to wish her well in her new ministerial role. I particularly acknowledge my constituency colleague, Deputy John Lahart, who does excellent work as Vice Chairman of this committee and has chaired a number of its meetings since he became Vice Chairman.

The committee will meet with the Revenue Commissioners today to discuss the revaluation of the local property tax and commercial stamp duty. As the Department of Finance officials will not be here today, I propose that we also discuss these items in greater detail with them on 16 January. I also note that we have invited the Minister for Finance to meet the committee in a separate session on that date to discuss the rainy day fund. I now propose to go into private session briefly to deal with some committee business.

The select committee went into private session at 4.09 p.m. and resumed in public session at 5.15 p.m.
