PAYMENT OF MINISTERS.
CATHAL BRUGHA (Waterford Co.) moved:—
"That Dáil authorises the Secretary for Finance to pay to any Member of the Ministry undertaking to devote substantially his whole time to his official work, a salary, upon the President's written direction, at the rate, in the case of the President, of £1,000 per annum, and in the case of any other Minister, not exceeding £500 per annum; and to pay to any Member of the Ministry undertaking to devote the greater part of his time to his official work such salary as the President may in writing direct at a proportional rate; and that Dáil further authorises the Secretary for Finance with the like direction to make similar payment to a President-Substitute and to Substitute-Ministers."
The Proposer mentioned that as he himself could not give all his time to his official duties he would accept no stipend, but would suggest that a substitute for him should be paid £300 per annum.
The motion was seconded by J. DOLAN (Leitrim). After discussion, it was decided on the motion of P. O MAILLE (Connemara), seconded by J. MACGUINNESS (Longford):—
"That the following Select Committee be appointed to report on the question of the remuneration of Ministers:
CATHAL BRUGHA (Waterford Co.).

J. DOLAN (Leitrim).
