REPORTS OF SELECT COMMITTEES. - 3. Payment of Ministry.
The MINISTER FOR DEFENCE presented the report of the Select Committee appointed to consider the question of the payment of Ministers as follows:—
"It was decided to recommend that the salary of the Prime Minister be not more than £500 per annum, and that he be empowered to pay to each of the remaining Ministers a salary not exceeding £300 per annum, and that an Assistant to the Minister for Defence shall receive the £300 per annum allocated to that Minister."
LIAM DE ROISTE (Cork City) moved the adoption of the report; and C. COLLINS (W. Limerick) seconded. Alderman T. KELLY (St. Stephen's Green) moved, and ART O'CONNOR (S. Kildare) seconded an amendment "That the salary of the Prime Minister be £600 per annum, and that power be given to pay up to a maximum of £350 per annum to the remaining Ministers." After discussion, the House divided, and the amendment was declared carried. The amendment was then put as a substantive motion and agreed to without a division.
