NON-MINISTERIAL MOTIONS. - EMBARGO ON FOREIGN-MANUFACTURED ARTICLES.
P. O MAILLE (Connemara) moved:—
"That Irish shopkeepers be warned that they may not henceforth sell any foreign articles if similar articles of Irish manufacture are obtainable, but that a period of six months be allowed them to dispose of their present stock of such goods. A penalty will be imposed for any breach of such order."
P. GALLIGAN (Cavan West) seconded the motion.
LIAM MAC COSGAIR (Kilkenny North) moved as an amendment:—
"That the consideration of this motion be postponed for one month and that an alternative proposition be put before the Dáil with a view to carrying out the idea embodied in the motion, viz.:—the necessity of supporting Irish manufactures and of impressing upon shopkeepers the necessity of stocking Irish manufactures and placing same in prominent positions in the stores."
This amendment was seconded by J.N. DOLAN (Leitrim) and accepted by the proposer of the original motion and agreed to.
