Vol. 1 No. 4

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - TRAINING OF TEACHERS.

To ask the Minister for Education if he is aware that, contrary to the custom of previous years, successful candidates at the Easter Scholarship Examination have not yet been called to training colleges, and if, in view of the dissatisfaction prevailing he can give an assurance that this matter will have immediate attention.

Owing to the change of Government if was found necessary to consider tentatively this general question of the arrangements in regard to the training of teachers with a view to adjusting, as far as possible, the output of trained teachers to our requirements. This, and the fact that the completion of the midsummer examination of first year's students was retarded by the conditions which existed since the end of June, naturally caused delay in calling students to training. The returns are now in the hands the college authorities, and it is understood that eligible students have been called or are being called to training.
