Vol. 1 No. 10

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - DREDGING OF HARBOURS.

To ask the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware of the serious condition of Harbours on the South-East Coast, by reason of the fact that the Commissioners at the different Ports were unable, for some years past, through lack of finance, to have the necessary dredging carried out. If the Government has considered the serious effect of this on the trade of the country, and if it is in a position to provide aid to the Commissioners concerned.

Port and Harbour authorities have undoubtedly been faced with financial difficulties during recent years, but the extent to which the Government can undertake to assist them depends on fuller inquiry into the present position. I will be glad to consider any representations sent to me by the Harbour Authorities which should be made as detailed as possible.
