Vol. 1 No. 31

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - BALLINA POST OFFICE.

To ask the Postmaster-General if it is a fact that the Post Office in Ballina has been transferred to the Hibernian Hall; if so, will he state the conditions under which it was transferred, how long it is proposed to occupy the Hall, and whether the owners will be recouped for loss of income from entertainments, etc., due to the occupation, as well as for any repairs which may have to be carried out.

The Post Office at Ballina was transferred to the Hibernian Hall on the 11th instant. The Military Authority informed the Postmaster that he required to take over the Post Office buildings as a Military Barrack, and in place of these premises he commandeered, for the use of the Post Office, the Hibernian Hall, the only suitable building in the town, to which the Post Office was accordingly transferred. The question of compensation to the owners of the Hibernian Hall for any loss sustained by the commandeering of their premises, is one for the Minister of Defence, to whom this portion of the question should be addressed.
