Vol. 1 No. 32

DÁIL IN COMMITTEE. - OFFICERS' MESS AND PAY.

With regard to the expenses for the messing of officers that is to some extent mixed up with the question of what is called Generals' pay. I do not know what exactly is meant by General, but our Senior Officers in the country get their kit and their keep and get either £5 or £4 a week as the case may be, and of the Senior Officers on the Staff probably four get £500 a year, as well as their kit and their keep. It will be understood then that the Officers' Mess in so far as it provides three or four meals a day is run out of Army funds. I think if Bass's Ale is used it is to be paid for.
