Vol. 1 No. 33

WRITTEN ANSWERS. - THE IRISH LIGHTS SERVICE.

To ask the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in the opinion of the Government, the Lighthouse keepers in the service of the Commissioners of Irish Lights are "Public Servants" within the meaning of Article 10 of the Treaty between Ireland and Great Britain.

The administration of matters relating to the Irish Lights services has not yet been transferred to the Provisional Government pending the conclusion of the Convention contemplated in Article 2 of the Annex to the Treaty. As already announced in the Dáil, the Civil Service Committee (Compensation) has been set up to advise as to the compensation payable under Article 10 of the Treaty, and the Government is not prepared to anticipate the conclusions of that Committee on any application coming before it which involves the question whether the applicant comes within the provisions of Article 10 or not.
