Vol. 2 No. 14

- UNEMPLOYMENT CLAIM.

To ask the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether the claim of James Murray, Wolfe Tone Street, Mountmellick, to unemployment benefit has been admitted, whether he is aware that he was ordered to call at Portlaoighise Exchange for payment of amount due, and if he will state the reason why, on arrival there, he was refused payment without any explanation?

This claimant has contributions standing to his credit which would entitle him to benefit for 68 days subject to production of evidence of unemployment, and for this purpose he was requested to call at the Local Office. He called at the Local Office, but did not produce the required evidence, and was informed that consequently payment could not be made. Payment will be made as soon as the Department is in a position to ascertain that the claimant is qualified for benefit, but it is impossible for the Department to obtain the necessary information without the co-operation of the claimant.
