Vol. 2 No. 22

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - ARREST OF NATIONAL TEACHERS.

To ask the Minister for Education what action is taken by his Department with regard to national teachers arrested by the military authorities and detained without trial; and whether it is the intention to adopt the same procedure as was followed by the Commissioners of National Education during the British regime.

When a teacher is arrested, payment of his salary is suspended as from the date of his arrest, and the manager of the school concerned is advised that a qualified teacher should be appointed in his place, and that payment of salary will be made to such a teacher as a "locum tenens" or temporary teacher pending the decision of the military authorities on the case of the teacher under arrest.
