Vol. 2 No. 22

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - COST OF RATE COLLECTION.

To ask the Minister for Local Government what is the present cost of collecting local rates throughout the Saorstát, and whether he has considered the question of substituting some cheaper and more effective method of collection than that at the present prevailing.

The cost of collection of the rates for last year will amount to approximately £200,000. The collection of County Council rates by means of receivable orders through the agency of the Post Office has been recommended, and, so far as this has been considered, it appears to promise substantial advantages over the present system both as regards economy and efficiency.
