Vol. 2 No. 26

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - SICKNESS BENEFIT FOR SOLDIERS.

To ask the Minister for Finance what arrangements, if any, are made to provide that persons insured under the National Health Insurance Acts who join the Army are kept in full credit in respect of their period of service so that they will be entitled to receive sickness and disablement benefit on their discharge, and their wives to receive maternity benefit during and after their husband's Army service; and what is the position of an insured person as regards payment of sickness or disablement benefit in respect of sickness or disability arising during Army service.

The President has asked me to answer this question. A Bill in relation to National Health Insurance is about to be introduced, and the question of including provision in it in regard to the matter mentioned in the Deputy's question is being considered.
