Vol. 2 No. 26

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - SOLDIERS AND UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE.

To ask the Minister for Industry and Commerce what arrangements, if any, are made to provide that persons insured under the Unemployment Insurance Acts who join the Army are kept in full credit in respect of their period of service so that they will be entitled to receive unemployment allowances, if necessary, on their discharge from the Army.

The provisions of the Unemployment Insurance Acts, in their present form, do not contemplate the maintenance of contributions for insured persons who join the Army, but I am in communication with the Minister for Defence, with a view to seeing what arrangements can be made to meet this special case. I will inform the Deputy of the result as soon as possible.
