Vol. 2 No. 31

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. - HOUSING SHORTAGE IN BALLISODARE.

SEAN O LAIDHIN

To ask the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that there is a serious shortage of housing accommodation for the workers in Ballisodare; whether any steps have been taken by the local authority towards remedying this evil, and whether the Minister has power to compel the local authority to provide housing accommodation in the town?

I am not aware of complaints having been received in regard to housing accommodation in Ballisodare. The requirements of the area will be inquired into.

The Sligo Rural District Council, who are the local authority concerned, do not appear to have in contemplation any scheme under the Labourers Act.

Section 9 of the Labourers Act, 1906, empowers me when necessary to require a Council to make an adequate improvement scheme, and to carry it out.
