Vol. 2 No. 34

WRITTEN ANSWER. - CAHIRCIVEEN LADY POST OFFICE OFFICIALS.

To ask the Minister for Defence whether three lady members of the permanent Post Office staff at Cahirciveen were served with notices of immediate dismissal on December 22nd by Comdt. W. Griffin, O.C. Cahirciveen, without complaint made; by what authority was this action taken; what were the reasons for these dismissals; whether the ladies concerned had signed a declaration of allegiance to the Government; and whether it is not a fact that testimony as to the loyalty of these ladies can be obtained from reliable local citizens.

Three members of the staff were served with notice of dismissal on the instructions of Comdt. Griffin and informed verbally at the time that this action was taken on the ground of their supplying military information to sympathisers with the Irregulars. On reviewing the circumstances, so far as they can be ascertained under present conditions, I have assented to their resuming their Post Office duties.
