Vol. 2 No. 36

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ORAL ANSWERS.] - SECONDARY SCHOOLS PROGRAMME.

To ask the Minister for Education if it is proposed to put into operation in the schools, as from the commencement of the next school year, the new programme drawn up by the Dáil Commission on Secondary Education, and whether the introduction of this programme will be accompanied by a radical improvement in the payment and general conditions of service of the teachers, as recommended in a resolution passed unanimously by the Commission at its final sitting.

It is proposed to adopt, as far as may be found practicable, in drawing up the programme for Intermediate Schools for the next school year, the recommendations of the Dáil Commission on Secondary Education.

The question of the payment and conditions of service of Intermediate teachers is receiving consideration at present, and has been under discussion with representatives of some of the principal bodies of teachers concerned.
