Vol. 2 No. 37

[ WRITTEN ANSWERS. ] - INCOME TAX ASSESSMENT. (RIGHT OF APPEAL.)

To ask the Minister for Finance if it is a fact that Mr. John J. Taaffe, National Teacher, Shanvaghera Boys' National School, Knock, Claremorris (private address:— Eden, Knock, Claremorris), has been refused the right of appeal against the assessment of Income Tax made on him by the Inspector of Taxes, Sligo, and if it is a fact that this official is pressing Mr. Taaffe for payment of the tax against which the latter has appealed without giving any opportunity of having the appeal heard and determined, and what action does the Minister for Finance intend to take in the matter.

It has not yet been possible to obtain full particulars of the matter referred to, but it is understood that the first intimation received by the Inspector that Mr. Taaffe desired to appeal only came to hand after the time for hearing appeals had passed, and after the Collector had made application for payment of the duty assessed. Further inquiries are being made in the matter.
