Vol. 2 No. 37

CEISTEANNA—QUESTIONS. [ ORAL ANSWERS. ] - COMPENSATION ADVANCES.

To ask the Minister for Finance if he is prepared to consider applications for advances on the security of decrees or claims for compensation in cases where hardship is caused by the delay in the assessment and payment of compensation.

Arrangements for making advances are at present in operation for certain cases of pre-Truce damage where such a course is specially desirable in the interests of industry, trade or employment. An extension of these arrangements is not feasible, but it is hoped that claims will be discharged with little delay as soon as the Criminal Injuries Bill now before the Dáil has become law. The Deputy will understand that any payments only those affected would be irregular payments not made under any statute, regulation or agreement.
